Jan. 22--TALLAHASSEE -- In a rare show of put-up-or-shut-up politics, Democratic lawmakers used a little-known legal maneuver Wednesday to force Republicans to say if they want to clear a growing waiting list of 74,000 poor children in need of state-paid health care.
The move -- a petition to hold a special lawmaking session in February on that one issue -- comes a day after Gov. Jeb Bush proposed a $55.4 billion budget that proposes to whittle down the waiting list for the state's KidCare waiting list by 14 percent, starting in July.
