In 1976, his first year of business, Daryl Sattui of V. Sattui Winery sold 1,800 cases from his winery near St. Helena.
Now, the annual casegoods sales have reached 35,000, all the more remarkable since every sale is direct, giving the winery both the wholesale and retail profits.
Sattui, who was profiled in Wines & Vines in 1985, has come a long way, indeed. In fact, his winery along Highway 29 may be a cult winery for his mostly Bay Area customers.
