Esfahan Urban Railway Organisation (EURO) has purchased two tunnel boring machines (TBMs) from Germany's Herrenknecht for the construction of Isfahan's metro. The revamped TBMs were due to be delivered to EURO in late December.
Drilling with the Herrenknecht earth pressure balanced (EPB) shields is due to begin in April on a 10-kilometre section of the metro's north-south line, the first line to be built. The double-tube, single-track tunnel being drilled will also cross the Zayandeh Rud river. Logistics equipment for the project will be supplied by Germany's Maschinen & Stahlbau Dresden (MSD) and segment moulds by CBE of France.
