Jan. 22--Smoking scofflaws in Pierce County may soon receive fines instead of mere warnings if a judge rules today in favor of the county health department's 3-week-old ban on smoking in public places.
Pierce County Superior Court Judge Ronald Culpepper is scheduled to preside over Round 2 in the legal challenge brought by a group of businesses opposed to the ban. The group, Entertainment Industry Coalition, failed to win a temporary restraining order two weeks ago to immediately block the new regulation.
