Jan. 23--The addition of a Target store in Santa Barbara would put plenty of money in the city's coffers, local economists said, but it would likely come at the expense of adding more low-paying jobs that would worsen the area's housing and traffic crises.
Aside from the tax revenue and jobs created, Target would mean hefty competition for existing retail chains and big-box stores in Goleta -- including Kmart and the Camino Real Marketplace -- and downtown Santa Barbara.
