Abortion: House advances measure tightening regulation
On the 31st anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision on Roe v. Wade, the Virginia House of Delegates on Thursday advanced a bill that would tighten health and safety regulations on abortion clinics.
Del. Robert G. Marshall, R-Prince William, said the bill is necessary to protect Virginia's women from an industry that enjoys looser regulations than veterinary clinics.
The legislation advanced to a third reading on the House floor after Democrats tried unsuccessfully to amend it to ban all abortions, a backhanded way of trying to kill the bill.
