Cheer up, Carolina Panthers! Miracles do happen in the Super Bowl. All it takes is the most unmiraculous brand of football imaginable.
A double-digit underdog has won the Super Bowl just four times in 37 games. Joe Namath and the Jets beat the Colts, 16-7, in Super Bowl III; the Chiefs beat the Vikings, 23-7, in Super Bowl IV; it was Broncos 31, Packers 24 in Super Bowl XXXII; and of course, the Patriots beat the Rams, 20-17, in Super Bowl XXXVI.
(Memo to NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue: Every sportswriter in America will personally pay you $20 if you'll PLEASE drop those Roman numerals.)
