Jan. 27--The state's first foray into running a recovery program for the Salton Sea ought to be a short one. Local elected officials from the sea's neighborhood -- that is, from Riverside and Imperial counties -- should be the ones to lead this effort. They have the experience, they have the motivation to get something done, and they have a decade-long record of commitment to the project.
That was the message the locals -- operating under the umbrella of the Salton Sea Authority -- delivered in Sacramento Jan. 20. And they're right.
