Under the auspices of the Vehicle Track System (VTS) Program, a longitudinal train dynamics model called Train Operation and Energy Simulator (TOES) has been developed. It is designed to run on high-end personal computers (PCs) such as the IBM-386 or equivalent machines.

TOES is capable of simulating any presently foreseen railroad rolling stock, train make-up, train-handling, or operations.
