Under the auspices of the Vehicle Track System (VTS) Program, a longitudinal train dynamics model called Train Operation and Energy Simulator (TOES) has been developed. It is designed to run on high-end personal computers (PCs) such as the IBM-386 or equivalent machines.
TOES is capable of simulating any presently foreseen railroad rolling stock, train make-up, train-handling, or operations. TOES Version 1.5, currently available for distribution, includes the latest innovations such as the articulated connector, slackless drawbar, double-stack and TOFC trains, distributed power, and Locotrol train.
