MANCHESTER, N.H. - An intriguing specter is hovering over the fierce battle for the Democratic presidential nomination - a brokered convention in Boston.
The possibility that none of the leading candidates - John Kerry, Howard Dean, John Edwards and Wesley Clark - will lock up the nomination when the last primaries are held June 8 is being examined by analysts and campaign operatives.
The notion is based on the field's relative balance, with two candidates branded as Northeastern liberals, and two labeled as Southern moderates, as well as the process itself.
