Decked out in her Winter Carnival tiara, sequined blouse and royal sash, Diane Winkler was ready for anything as she stood before 700 awestruck schoolchildren in St. Paul recently.
Then, the 1996 Queen of the Northlands recalled, a 5-year-old girl stopped her cold.
"She asked, `When you go to the bathroom, does your crown fall off in the potty?' " Winkler said. "I didn't know what to say, so I said, `Well, we're very careful.' "
