Jan. 28--LOS ALAMOS, N.M. -- Citing a classified document detailing the threat of terrorists' truck bombs, the U.S. Department of Energy is studying a traffic plan that would allow tighter control of access to Los Alamos National Laboratory's main administrative area.
The plan, which would rely on security gates to monitor individual vehicles before they enter West Jemez Road, could cost upward of $20 million, said Dennis Martinez, deputy manager of the Los Alamos office of the National Nuclear Security Administration, DOE's nuclear-weapons branch.
