WITH A SWEEPING panorama of the Sonoran Desert below and an extinct volcano looming unobstructed behind the site, views were top priority in this house for an empty-nester couple. But the architect gave the clients far more than picture windows; he created a sculptural shelter that balances form and function, light and shade, in an artful composition using simple materials.
