THE chairman of Crufts and his wife, who was due to judge the best dog in this year's show, have both resigned following allegations of 'puppy-farming'.

Peter and Joyce Mann stood down after a series of anonymous press releases were sent out accusing Mrs Mann of 'farming' puppies more than 30 years ago.

Mrs Mann bred Yorkshire terriers from a number of bitches in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The press releases were sent to dog magazines and the Kennel Club, which runs Crufts.

They claimed that in 1971 alone, Mrs Mann registered 126 Yorkshire terrier puppies, or 23 litters.
