WINTER is a busy time for the gardeners at Durham's Botanic Gardens, with new plants to introduce and old ones to prune in 16 acres of land.
"Winter is always a busy season," explains head gardener Mike Hughes. "It's a time when we have to get all the big jobs done, just before the gardens get full of visitors after Easter."
