Introduction

Tunisia faces a serious water deficit caused by low annual rainfall, distributed unevenly over space and time, and increasing water demand (Beaumont 2002). The country can be classified into three climate zones: Mediterranean, semi arid and arid (Koppen's Cs, Bs, Bw), which all experience differing water availability.
