WASHINGTON -- Americans spent more than $1 billion on chocolates for last Valentine's Day. But Feb. 14 is not even close to the top chocolate-sales day.
That honor goes to Halloween, which spurred $2 billion worth of chocolate sales last year. Easter, with $1.8 billion, is next.
Even so, we're chowing down on less chocolate than we have in the past. In 1997, for example, the average American consumed 27 pounds of chocolate.
In 2002, that declined to 24 pounds per person.

If you indulge in too many Valentine's sweets, you won't be able to sue food manufacturers, distributors or sellers for making you fat ...
