Colorado law enforcement officials pushed Thursday for congressional approval of additional quality child care funds, saying it could translate into a cut in crime.
The state hopes to model child care programs after ones in Michigan and Chicago, where statistics have shown lower rates of crime, drug use and welfare dependence, and an increase in graduation rates.
"It's something we've known through research and personal experience for many years," said Jefferson County District Attorney Dave Thomas.
But the money in Colorado isn't there.
