FOOT-and-mouth disease devastated the Yorkshire Dales in 2001.
Farmers-lost their stock and their livelihood, and tourism was decimated.
Footpaths were closed, walkers stayed away.
Then came the movie Calendar Girls in summer 2002. Shot in the Dales, home to the women of Rylstone WI who had the original, risque fundraising idea in 1999, the film brought with it 150 crew, actors and actresses, the razzmatazz of moviemaking - and gave the region a much-needed financial and spiritual boost.
