On Christmas Eve morning, a day before his 60th birthday, Dennis McCloskey was taking out the garbage at his home in Beaver Dam when he slipped on the stairs and hit the floor.
He didn't know it yet, but he was having a heart attack. What happened to him over the next 12 hours - both good and bad - makes a strong case for the life-saving abilities of UW Hospital's Med Flight program, one of only three medical helicopter services in the United States with an emergency-medicine physician on board for every run, hospital officials said.
