HAMPTON ROADS is far from Hollywood, but a local contest is hoping to expose the area's star power.
Hundreds of aspiring singers, dancers, rappers and musicians are vying for a shot to become the first Virginia Idol as part of a talent search sponsored by Blair Entertainment, Z104 and other businesses. All auditions take place at the Virginia House of Comedy twice a week. Prizes include a pre-owned vehicle and varying amounts of cash.
The contest, which began as a local event on Jan. 7, has increased in popularity around the state. Sponsors are now beefing up the competition, extending the finals ...
