"World" are what Suzanne Farrell calls George Balanchine's ballets. And like three other key dancers who inhabited these worlds--Maria Tallchief, Violette Verdy, and Edward Villella--and a dozen international Balanchine scholars, Farrell was on hand for "From the Mariinsky to Manhattan: George Balanchine and the Transformation of American Dance," a University of Michigan symposium held in Ann Arbor October 31-November 1, 2003.
