The lengthy commercial aerospace industry slump, which was compounded by the effects of 9/11, has tested the mettle of Northeast Ohio metalworking companies that specialize in the "lost wax,'' or investment casting process.
Casting companies and suppliers have downsized to cut costs and looked for ways to expand their services as a way to gain new business in a slow-growth industry that forms a significant part of Northeast Ohio's manufacturing sector.
