Two years ago Affinity Health System wanted to cut the costs and transcription backlog associated with the dictated clinical notes of 200 physicians in its medical group. Transcriptionists supporting the Affinity Medical Group were sometimes two weeks behind in managing up to 3,000 reports a day generated at 17 clinics in northeast Wisconsin.
But since the implementation of speech recognition technology, transcriptionist productivity is up an average of 24% and turnaround time has dropped to 48 hours, says Will Weider, CIO at Menasha, Wis.-based Affinity Health System.
