According to leading marketing information provider The NPD Group, the strong sales of personal finance, security and tax software helped negate dwindling sales in the gaming, operating system and educational software markets for personal computers in 2003. Overall PC software retail sales in 2003 decreased 4 percent to $3.68 billion from $3.84 billion in 2002. Unit sales surpassed 102 million in 2003, falling 9.5 percent from 2002.
