Nahas moves into industry

Saeb Nahas, one of Syria's most prominent private-sector investors, has moved quickly to take advantage of the opportunities created by the new Investment Law 10, and is setting up several industrial ventures. Before the passage of the law, in May 1991, private investment was restricted to mixed-sector schemes in agriculture and tourism, areas where Nahas is already active. The new law opens the way for local, Arab and foreign investment in most sectors of the economy (MEED 24:5:91).
