"Much progress has been made in recent years in the understanding of angiogenesis, yet signaling pathways involved remain poorly defined. Here we report that small RhoA GTPase is implicated in the invasion of human microvascular endothelial cells (HMEC-1). Ectopic expression of active-RhoA GTPase induced the expression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 metalloproteinase, a key proteinase of the basement membrane, and promoted migration of endothelial cells through a 3D-matrix protein gel," scientists in France report.
