2004 FEB 9 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Profits at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina were rising faster a year ago than all but three other health insurers in the U.S., an industry rating service said.

Only three other insurers had larger profit increases than Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC), a nonprofit that reported a $35.9 million increase in its net income between the first quarters of 2002 and 2003, Weiss Ratings, Inc., said in a January 2004 report.

Weiss Ratings rates the financial stability of 700 health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and all Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.
