Hans-Goran Ekman is a docent at Uppsala University who has written a number of books, the most noteworthy dealing with Lars Ahlin and August Strindberg. Ekman is therefore no stranger to challenging writers, and it was with great expectations that I read his new work on Karen Blixen. Regrettably, my high hopes were dashed. The book is not entirely without merit--a scholar with Ekman's experience could hardly write 203 pages without saying something interesting. The chief source of my discontent is not as much with Ekman's arguments (though I do have a few issues there), but with the thoroughness of his research. Ekman ...
