Desmond Robinson hurt his back on the job at New Venture Gear in 2001 and has been out of work ever since.
He and his family have lost their Baldwinsville home, their health insurance benefits and their savings. When their two children got sick last year, the Robinsons couldn't afford to take them to their regular doctors. So he and his wife, Chyna, took them to the Syracuse Community Health Center at 819 S. Salina St.
"They have a sliding pay scale for people like us who are financially ravaged," Chyna Robinson said. "If it wasn't for the center, we would have probably gone to the hospital."
