Feb. 10--WASHINGTON -- Negotiations to restart beef exports could take on increased urgency after a Department of Agriculture investigation ended finding no additional cases of mad cow disease.
The USDA's Chief Veterinary Officer Ron DeHaven said Monday the department's search could not find all the cows that could be linked to the infected Holstein in Washington state. But after a near two-month search for cattle from the same farm that could have also been infected, USDA officials concluded there was little chance that the brain-wasting disease spread from there.
