NEW YORK -- During this week's fall collections, designers will be showing looks hoping to inspire buyers to subscribe to their aesthetic, which last year provided an uplift to at least one group of vendors.

This time last year, Marc Jacobs put models in cobalt blue and orange opaque tights, while Carolina Herrera dressed hers in fishnets. According to legwear retailers, customers bought the looks hook, line and sinker. Nearly every retailer and designer polled said that fall 2003 was their strongest legwear season in years and that colored opaque tights were the season's biggest seller, with fishnets close behind.
