PORTLAND - Beef jerky won the battle of the Tillamooks on Friday. But cheese remained unrepentant.

In a surprise move, U.S. District Judge Michael Mosman ruled on the main issue in the trademark dispute only minutes after two of Tillamook County's most important companies presented their arguments.

Tillamook Country Smoker gets to keep its name, the judge declared.

But it wasn't all serious:
