OUR Spike the Spire campaign received huge backing yesterday - by the same council that voted to put it up. Almost 70 per cent of Dublin City councillors we spoke to slammed the bizarre monument.

And they revealed that the idea of sticking up a giant needle on the city's main street would be REJECTED if it was put to a vote today.

Vincent Jackson, who was the only councillor to put in a written objection when the idea was first proposed, still hates the Spire with a passion.
