In her general introduction, the editor assures the reader that this is no narrative biography of the queen. Instead, it is an examination of the ways in which Marie Antoinette was exploited as a woman from her early childhood to the present. Hence the subtitle, "Writings on the Body of a Queen." The work consists of an Introduction, an "Afterword" written for the book, and ten chapters reprinted from other works.
