NEW YORK -- Lord & Taylor and Liz Claiborne are breaking up.
In an effort to move further upscale, the Lord & Taylor division of May Department Stores Co. said it will stop carrying the signature Liz Claiborne brand.
"Lord & Taylor is no longer buying the misses' sportswear portion of the Liz Claiborne brand," wrote a May spokeswoman in an e-mail response to questions. "This decision was part of the overall and ongoing repositioning strategy of Lord & Taylor. Lord & Taylor continues to expand its offerings of the other brands within the Liz Claiborne corporate portfolio."
