Feb. 12--FORT WORTH, Texas -- XTO Energy, the Fort Worth-based natural-gas producer, rode a 34 percent increase in production during the fourth quarter of 2003 to a profit of $61.9 million, or 33 cents per share.

A year ago, XTO earned $56.1 million in the fourth quarter. Earnings per share were unchanged because of an increase in the number of common shares outstanding.

The company, which has become a player in the downtown real estate market, reported a record profit for 2003, $288.3 million, or $1.60 per share, up from $186.1 million, or $1.12 per share, ...
