In the weeks following its announcement, Microsoft's Visual Basic programming language got more ecstatic press than any other application since the original 1-2-3. Level-headed, technically astute writers described it as the most significant Windows program ever written, and labeled it possibly the most important software product of the decade. Sober commentators claimed that Visual Basic brings the power to create stunning Windows applications to anyone with modest programming skills and a willingness to dabble.
