Michael Wallace hasn't been sleeping well recently. In the early hours of the morning, the curator of birds at the Los Angeles Zoo awakes and worries about four young condors in his care. This week, as part of a bold effort to restore the en-, dangered California condor to the wild, the fledglings will be helicoptered from the zoo to Ventura County's Sespe Condor Sanctuary. "I keep trying to anticipate what they will need by putting myself in their minds," says Wallace.
