The Ukrainian Government has unanimously decided to use the oil pipeline between the port of Odessa (Black Sea) and Brody (North-West Ukraine, near the Polish border) in a South-North direction, meaning that it will carry oil from the Caspian basin towards Poland and the North-East of Europe (see European Report 2836). The Anglo-Russian company TNK-BP had proposed using the oil pipeline in the reverse direction to move heavier oil from the Urals. An American consultancy had also advised the Ukrainian Government to do this for three years, the period of time required for the Ukrainian pipeline to be extended by 600 kilometres to Plotz (Poland).
