Dog owner drowns trying to save animal
A man drowned Friday while trying to pull his dog from the icy waters of Josh's Pond in Broomfield. The black Labrador was later rescued by firefighters.
The name of the 45-year-old man was not released Friday.
North Metro Fire Rescue received a call at about 11 a.m. of a dog that had fallen through the ice of Josh's Pond.
Firefighters were suited up and trying to pull the dog from the half-frozen waters when a witness ran up and told them that the dog's owner may have fallen into the water as well, said Wendy Krajewski, spokeswoman for North Metro Fire Rescue.
