Until recently, it was hard to find anyone younger than 60 who knew what a sidecar was, let alone someone who drank them. But this classic concoction of cognac, triple sec and fresh lemon juice is enjoying a comeback among the cocktail cognoscenti.
With its warm tones, it is a great winter aperitif, and unlike many frou-frou drinks, the sidecar has a wonderful unisex quality. It's very name evokes a sturdy masculinity.
Sidecar aficionado Jane Bolinger of Somerville was introduced to them eight years ago by her friend Paul Dixon. Now the two are sidecar buddies.
