MILWAUKEE _ John Kerry and John Edwards fought to a surprisingly close finish in the Wisconsin primary Tuesday, signaling that the fight for the Democratic presidential nomination is turning into a two-man race.
Early returns showed the race neck and neck between the two senators, Kerry from Massachusetts and Edwards from North Carolina.
Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean appeared to finish a distant third _ his 17th loss in a row _ and he was headed home to Vermont to reassess his campaign.
