Ambulances bearing patients with chest pain and other heart attack symptoms often bypass Community General Hospital.
That's because it's the only one of Syracuse's four major hospitals that doesn't offer cardiac catheterization, a standard test doctors use to detect blocked arteries and other signs of heart disease.
The 356-bed hospital on Onondaga Hill wants to redirect some of that ambulance traffic to its emergency room. It is seeking state permission to build a $2.6 million cardiac catheterization lab for diagnostic procedures.
