The report on intermodal loading units adopted by the European Parliament in plenary session on February 12 in Strasbourg finally dropped the amendment proposed by rapporteur Ulrich Stockmann (PES, Germany) permitting Member States to grant tax incentives to transporters opting to use future European intermodal loading units (EILUs). The EILU is a new loading unit for use in intermodal transport, the development of which is proposed in a draft Directive presented in April (COM(2003) 115).
