Japan and Iran are ready to close a major oil deal as Japan tries to lessen its dependence on Gulf oil.

The deal was reported last year to be worth $2 billion.

The world's second-biggest oil importer gets almost 90 percent of its oil from the Middle East, mostly from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. If the deal with Iran goes through, Japan would have full development rights to Iran's Azadegan oil ...
