Feb. 19--OGDEN, Utah -- The parent company of Fred Meyer and Smith's stores is closing the doors on its Ogden Fred Meyer in April as part of a statewide reorganization effort, leaving one of the city's retail hubs without its main anchor and local shoppers with one fewer option.
Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. will also close Fred Meyer stores in Granger and Sandy and will convert its five other Utah stores into an expanded one-stop-shopping format bearing the Smith's name in an effort to capitalize on local brand-name recognition.
