The state Building Commission pushed ahead several UW-Madison projects Wednesday including a contested contract for renovating a Mechanical Engineering building that contains a nuclear reactor.
Rep. Spencer Black, D-Madison, argued in favor of bidding for just one contractor for the $45 million project to ensure safety. A single contractor could better oversee the sequence of work including the demolition of part of the building and the relocation of the reactor's support labs.
UW-Madison officials agreed.
