2004 FEB 24 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Multiple malaria infections significantly impair the learning abilities of schoolchildren.
In a recent study from Sri Lanka, the "impact of repeated malarial infections on the school performance of children was investigated in 571 school children 6-14 years of age".
Participating children lived in "a malaria-endemic area in southern Sri Lanka where both Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax infections are prevalent," noted S.D. Fernando and coauthors at the University of Colombo.
