Antiques expert Dennis Taylor of Madison has sold all sorts of rare items during his eight years as an auctioneer, including a German military helmet that went for $12,000, but he never thought he'd hawk a fishing lure for a hundred grand and change.
It happened on Nov. 8, in Boxborough, Mass.
Taylor, who was taking bids for Lang's Sporting Collectibles, Inc., auctioned a "Giant" Haskell Minnow for $92,000, plus a 10 percent sales commission.
The bottom line came to $101,200, which is believed to be the highest amount ever paid for an item of fishing tackle sold at auction in the United States. ...
